Community Flowers

This weekend at the Kids Club in Harlem on July 18 and in the Bronx on July 19, children teamed up to make Community Flowers. We set up the activity so everyone, no matter their age, could join in. Each child got a paper flower petal or leaf to decorate with markers in their own style. When everyone was done, we put all the pieces together to make big flower posters. The kids were excited to see their artwork come together and form beautiful community flowers.

Flowers are important in our environment because they support pollinators like bees. Bees help grow many of the fruits, vegetables, and plants we use every day. In this activity, children learned that a healthy garden needs many kinds of flowers, just as a strong community grows when everyone adds something special.
