Harvest Hands
Share
In addition to our veggie coloring activity at the Uptown Good Food Farmers Market in Harlem and the Bronx Park East Farmers Market, our interns led a fun and engaging Kids Club activity called Harvest Hands. With kid-safe face paint, the interns helped children create vibrant and playful designs of their favorite fruits and vegetables on their hands. This activity gave kids a unique art piece they could admire on their own, featuring the selected produce. While the experience was enjoyable, it also held more profound significance. Children connected with and celebrated these foods by wearing representations of fruits and vegetables on their skin. The activity highlighted the colors of fruits and vegetables and showcased the diversity found in fresh produce.
Supplies:
- Face-paint or any kid-safe body paint
- Brushes (small ones for details)
- A cup of water to clean brushes
- Paper towels (if needed for spills)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Start by selecting your paint. Depending on the type of paint you choose, you may need to add some water to your brush to activate it before you start painting. You can decide what to paint! Create several blue circles to represent blueberries, or use yellow paint in a curved shape to form a banana, adding some black or brown at the top to depict the banana stem. For corn, paint a long, curved yellow shape, similar to a football, and draw black lines to show the rows of corn. You can also use green paint for the husk. If you have a limited number of colors, mix them to create new shades and expand your palette while painting.
