Veggie Coloring

For our Kids Club held on Saturday, July 19th at Uptown Good Food Farmers Market located in Harlem, and on Sunday, July 20th at our Bronx Park East Farmers Market, our summer interns, Tiffaney Batista, Zarya Gutierrez, and Brad Lynch led two fun and educational activities for kids who were interested in participating. The first activity that we allowed kids to participate in was a veggie/fruit coloring activity, allowing them to express their creativity and gain knowledge about the importance of healthy eating. Children received a coloring sheet that displayed a variety of fruits and vegetables, including corn, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, eggplants, and more. Children could then color their papers with the colored pencils provided and create unique and colorful works of art. This activity allowed children to be artistic and use their creative freedom to choose whatever colors they wanted for their art. They also removed some essential and beneficial knowledge regarding correctly identifying fruits and vegetables. By coloring in various vegetables and fruits, kids can learn the characteristics that make up these fruits/vegetables, allowing them to identify these healthy foods better. Kids can also understand the importance of adding these fruits/veggies into their diets and their positive impacts on their health.

If you want to do this activity yourself, here's what you need.

Supplies:

• Coloring sheet printout of fruits/vegetables 
• Colored pencils (markers and crayons can be used as well)

Step-by-Step Instructions:
Start by printing a coloring sheet featuring fruits or vegetables. Printouts like these can be found on Google for free by searching for "veggie and fruits coloring pages." They can then be printed out for children to color. If you do not have a printer, you can visit your local public library and print out coloring sheets there. 

The children used colored pencils for our activity, but any similar art material, such as crayons and markers, could be used. The children were able to color to their hearts' content and create their own beautiful works of art!
