Portion Size Puzzle
Share
Teaching children about portion control is an important step toward building lifelong healthy eating habits. Kids today are often surrounded by oversized servings, which can make it harder to recognize what a balanced meal looks like. By learning how to measure portions with everyday tools like cups, spoons, or even their own hands, children gain a simple way to understand balance, avoid overeating, and make healthier food choices as they grow.
Thank you to all the kids and families who joined us for Kids Club on Sunday 09/14/25 at the Bronx Brady Playground! This week’s activity, the Portion Size Puzzle, helped children learn about healthy portions in a fun, hands-on way. Using measuring spoons, their hands, and real foods like rice, beans, and produce, kids first guessed what a serving size looked like and then got to see what it actually is.
Through this activity, children discovered that serving sizes can be simple to measure—like using your fist to estimate a cup of pasta or a palm for a serving of protein. The activity encouraged both kids and parents to think about balance and moderation when building meals.
We loved seeing everyone’s excitement as they played, learned, and earned Healthbucks for their efforts! Stay tuned for next week’s Kids Club activity—we can’t wait to see you soon!
