Seedling Journey

Seedling Journey

After completing the exterior of our greenhouse, we began testing its environment by planting Seed Savers Exchange Michels Cowpea, Tours Squash, and Burgess Buttercup Squash in Winstrip Trays on July 20. Partnering with our Seed Starter Coordinator, we were satisfied to see germination occur in less than five days—an early sign of success that excited us. The images below capture this milestone, showcasing the hardy growth of our seedlings in a controlled environment.

By August 17, the seedlings were ready for the next phase of their journey. We transplanted them to a production farm in upstate New York that had recently experienced a significant crop loss due to rainstorms and flooding three weeks prior. The seedlings will enable the farm to continue growing and producing harvests for our farmer's market.

Providing the seedlings will help the farm reduce the need to purchase produce from other sources, allowing them to focus on recovering and profiting from their crops. Our initiative supports local agriculture and strengthens our community's resilience and commitment to sustainable farming practices.

As we improve our greenhouse environment, we look forward to more successes that will further our mission of supporting local farms and promoting sustainable agriculture. Stay tuned for more updates as we grow together!
